The Little Dragons program is geared to children aged 3 to 5. Your child may attend 2 out of 5 scheduled classes each week -- to fit even the busiest parenting schedule. Our Dragons curriculum will introduce your child to our system's basic martial arts techniques but, more importantly, it will cover a number of essential life-skills they should be familiar with before starting school. These include: 'Stranger Danger', '911 Phone Skills', 'Fire Safety', 'First Aid', 'Drug Awareness', 'Team Work' and 'Sharing'.

Our instructors are skilled at teaching martial arts to young children through the use of games, races and a range of other activities that convey the content of the lesson while also increasing body awareness, balance, strength and flexibility. Rather than confusing and discouraging pre-schoolers with advanced patterns and self-defense techniques, we strive to make learning fun and exciting while still obtaining the results you expect: increased martial arts ability, respect and inter-personal skills. With regular attendance over 12 to 24 months, your child will graduate into the Little Ninjas program and will have a solid base to prepare them for our standard martial arts program which leads all the way up to a Canadian SMA Academy Black Belt.

This specialized program is for children aged 5 to 7. The Canadian Sport Martial Arts Academy has six convenient class times for this program every week. Ideally, we would like parents to commit to sending their child to 2 or 3 classes per week. Classes are kept as small as possible to ensure a low student-to-teacher ratio. We typically omit “contact sparring” and “jiu-jitsu” from the curriculum until children reach the youth program (8-13 years). Our Ninja students are having so much fun in these classes without even realizing the important character and developmental skills they are acquiring alongside the martial arts instruction.

Unlike our Dragons program, the Little Ninjas program does follow our standard martial arts curriculum. This curriculum covers the same lessons and skills as the Youth and Adult programs yet the material is taught in an age-specific manner emphasizing disguised repetition and action-packed classes to keep the young students energized and focused from beginning to end. Once your child has graduated to the Green Belt level (12 to 36 months) they will be ready to join our fast-paced Youth program which will take them all the way to the Black Belt level.

The Youth Karate program is aged for children aged 8 to 13 years old, The Canadian Sport Martial Arts Academy offers 8 to 10 youth classes per week. Ideally, we would like parents to commit to bringing their child in for 2 or more classes per week. Each class will focus on one aspect of the overall Martial Arts Program:

  • Belt Curriculum
  • Kicking
  • Stances & Strikes
  • Forms & Patterns
  • Self Defense & Jiu-Jitsu
  • Sparring
  • Weapons Training
  • Flexibility

Our Martial Arts Program, while presented under the “karate” banner, actually includes elements from several different Martial Arts experience and education. When a child earns his/her Canadian Sport Martial Arts Academy black belt, they will truly understand what it means to be a Martial Artist and that anything in life is achievable if you put your mind, body and spirit into it!

The health benefits associated with martial arts training extend far into adult life. A healthier and stronger heart, a toned and muscular body, flexible and mobile joints and limbs are just a few of the many benefits our adult members enjoy.

While our sports martial arts program may appear to novices to be “way too hard”, the truth is that all students are encouraged to progress at their own pace. Some new students are able to train 5 days per week and naturally improve by leaps and bounds while others use their martial arts training primarily to maintain their fitness levels or as a way to relieve stress. Whatever your reasons for joining us, know that we are here to help you realize your personal and physical growth through the martial arts.

Our Academy’s teen and adult classes are open to persons 14 years (grade 9) and older. The current average student age is around 30 years old.

If you’re thinking that you may be too old to get started in the martial arts, you should know that many of our top black belts are over age 45 and many of them didn’t start until well into their 40’s. Unlike other sports, martial arts is an activity where you can excel in your own way at any age due to the wide variety of skills and elements involved.  Our system’s components are so diverse that anyone can find their passion above and beyond the basic requirements of the belt curriculum. This keeps them motivated and excited to train and learn for many, many years.
